What a rough weekend for football. The Bulldogs lost a heartbreaker, my Buccaneers put on one of the worst offensive performances in history and Fred Smoot and the Redskins lost to the Lions, which I sadly expected. Then, thanks to Frank Gore hurting himself and laying a goose egg, I lost two of three fantasy match ups. My only redeeming performance was DeSean Jackson, who once again tore it up. In case you were wondering, this guy has entered must-start territory after totaling 265 yards and two touchdowns the last two weeks. Jackson isn’t the only Eagle I like, either. You’ll find a couple flying around in my pickups for this week. So, without further ado, here you are. Also, keep in mind that bye weeks are now starting. You don’t want to be that guy.
Matthew Stafford QB/DET – Stafford is steadily growing more comfortable in the offense, evidenced by his 241 yards and one touchdown against Washington. He’s got Calvin Johnson and Kevin Smith catching the majority of his passes, and he will continue to pass a ton as the Lions are always playing from behind.
Mark Sanchez QB/NYJ – He has been, by far, the most poised of the rookie QB’s this year. He threw for 171 yards and had three total touchdowns against the Titans. The more he plays like that the more Rex Ryan will let him loose.
LeSean McCoy RB/PHI – He started in place of Brian Westbrook, who injured the same knee he had surgery on in the offseason. That’s a bad sign for those who own Westy, but it looks like McCoy is an able replacement with 93 total yards and one touchdown against the Chiefs.
Glen Coffee RB/SF – Another replacement for an injury-prone star, Coffee got 25 carries in place of the sidelined Gore. He didn’t do much against the Vikings, but no one does. If Gore’s injury is serious then Coffee is a must-have pickup.
Brent Celek TE/PHI – I talked about him leading up to week three and he did me proud, replicating his week two numbers of eight receptions for 104 yards. In week three he topped of his numbers with a touchdown just to make me look good. In the high-flying Eagle offense Celek will continue to impress.
Kevin Walter WR/HOU – It was his first game back in action this season and he caught seven passes for 96 yards and one touchdown. What happens now that he’s shaken the rust off? With my boy Corn on the Schaub throwing to him and Andre Johnson drawing double-teams Walter will see a lot of balls come his way.
Bryant Johnson WR/DET – BJ was a preseason sleeper of mine and he finally broke out this week with 73 yards and one touchdown. Similar to Walter, Johnson is in an offense that will throw the ball a disproportionate amount of times, and with opposing defenses concentrating on Megatron, A.K.A. Calvin Johnson, he will reap the fantasy benefits.
A few other guys worth considering: Pierre Garcon, Mario Manningham, Ricky Williams, Kyle Boller and Shaun Hill.
