This weekend is a busy one
for Mississippi State fans, with
two home basketball games, a
preseason baseball parade, the
softball team’s season opener
and a home tennis match.
Whew. Due to some schedule
overlap, it’s impossible to catch
everything, but with this handy
guide you can get a sample of
it all and at least keep yourself
busy.
Softball, 3:00 p.m. today
This is the first weekend of
softball season, and it’s a busy
one. The Bulldogs have four
games this weekend: one today,
tomorrow at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
and one Sunday at 1 p.m.
You should be able to catch
most of game one against
Kennesaw State before rushing
off to Rick’s Cafe to ride
in the parade. If you only care
to watch the parade, then you
can probably stay through the
game and catch the end of the
parade when it rolls into the
Dudy Noble parking lot.
Dudy Gras, 4 p.m. today
This annual parade should
prove to be as much fun as last
year’s and will likely be even
bigger. For a full preview, see
page 7.
Tennis, 1 p.m. Saturday
The Lady Bulldogs are off to
a great start at 3-0, and begin
their quest for a fourth straight
match Saturday against Troy.
The Lady Trojans are also
undefeated, but play Ole Miss
on Friday before coming to
Starkville.
Basketball, 2 p.m Saturday
Hurry over to The Hump to
catch the hoops action as the
Dawgs look to complete a season
sweep of the Razorbacks.
Softball, 4 p.m. Saturday
The basketball game should
be done in time to catch most
of the second game of the softball
doubleheader. Game two
will pit State against Iona. This
will be the best opportunity of
the weekend to catch an entire
softball game, time-wise.
Sports trivia tournament,
7:30 p.m. Saturday
The MSU Quiz Bowl club
will host a sports tournament
in McCain Hall. Come as part
of a team of four or individually.
The cost is $5 per person.
Softball, 1 p.m. Sunday
The final opponent of the
weekend for the softball girls
has yet to be determined.
Basketball, 2 p.m. Sunday
The Lady Bulldogs play host
to the Lady Tigers of LSU
Sunday, and LSU will look to
avenge a home loss to State
on Jan. 22. The game should
be a good one because before
Thursday’s games, these teams
were a game apart in the standings.
That’s it. If you’re like me,
you will probably have piles of
homework you’ve put off too
long, but you will have survived
the first truly busy weekend
of the year. This weekend
provides good practice before
things really heat up when
baseball season starts in two
weeks.
