Campus plan should live up to hype

FutureSTATE 2015 seems more like a public relations stunt than an honest plan to improve MSU.
While many of the objectives of the plan are commendable, we doubt everything can be implemented in nine years. In other words, when the administration announces such a plan, it should live up to what it says. Otherwise, the plan would only serve as a way to make people think the administration is actually doing something.
Another concern is whether this new plan will conflict with MSU’s Master Plan. Are we simply throwing away the old plan, or will it work alongside with the new one? The administration has followed the Master Plan closely in the last couple of years. Thus far, the results have been satisfactory.
Oddly enough, the Master Plan looks ahead 20 years, but this new plan only looks ahead nine years. Why would anyone make a plan for just nine years? The choice is unusual.
Regardless, we hope the administration and President Foglesong can deliver on this plan. If this turns out to be misleading PR, our leaders should be held responsible.
