A one-passenger glider crashed shortly after 3 p.m. today near the corner of Hospital Road and North Jackson Street.
The pilot of the experimental aircraft apparently lost control when the plane’s wings detatched, Starkville Police Chief David Lindley said. The pilot parachuted from the craft before it crashed, landing almost a mile from the crash site. He has been transported to the Oktibbeha County Hospital.
The pilot suffered minor injuries, Mississippi State spokesman Sammy McDavid said. His identity is unknown at this time.
Starkville police are securing pieces of the plane for federal investigators.
