Sixteen members of the 2006-07 Student Association Cabinet were appointed to positions during an SA Senate meeting held Tuesday night.
Included in the 16 positions were the two new positions of student wellness director and director of history and traditions council.
SA President J.R. Love said the determining factor of the new cabinet members was simply who would perform best at each position for the good of Mississippi State.
“We need to serve this university the best we can,” Love said.
The Senate also added to the executive council the new position of administrative liaison to the SA president. The position was given to Jeremy Johnson who will serve as a mediator between students and the SA president.
The senators also discussed a proposal to eliminate future classes that would take place on the Monday after Easter Sunday. Many students who live far from Starkville are in support of this change because they either did not make it home this year for the weekend or were traveling on Sunday.
Sophomore geosciences major Brittany Hankins said that she thinks this change is a good idea because it will allow students to fully enjoy their Easter holiday without having to worry about traveling back to school on Sunday.
“We would then be able to spend the holiday with our families on Sunday and then travel back to school on Monday,” Hankins said.
Another issue discussed was the location of polling places for all SA elections to be held. Lee Weiskopf said since The Union will be under construction, the elections will be held at Mitchell Memorial Library and another undetermined place.
Weiskopf said this was the last meeting before the new Senate positions will be appointed for next year.
