    Delta Chi haunts Starkville Monday

Next week at the Delta Chi house, scaring means caring. From Monday to Wednesday, the men of Delta Chi will host their annual haunted house.
“I have to say, it’s a pretty long haunted house,” Chris Bass, philanthropy chairman, said. “We have a guided tour that goes through the fraternity house and into the woods behind.”
The Greek ghouls will provide what promises to be three evenings of delightful horror shows.
“We’ve got all kinds of surprises that will get the people screaming,” Bass said. “We’ll even have some guys with chainsaws.”
Delta Chi may be hosting the event, but as the Beatles used to say, they get by with a little help from their friends.
“The girls at Tri-Delta are going to be helping us out with this,” Bass said.
While the haunted house may leave its patrons with accelerated heartbeats and weakened bladders, it leaves some special children smiling.
“All proceeds are donated to the Mississippi Sheriff’s Boys and Girls Ranch in West Point,” Bass said. “It’s a home for abused children that operates only on donations from the public. Every year, we raise about $3,000 to $4,000, but we’re hoping to exceed that this year.”
Through the years, the Delta Chi haunted house has been met with favorable responses from the public.
“We usually have about 2,000 people go through the haunted house every year,” Bass said. “There’s people lined up on the sidewalk, waiting to get in.”
Admission is $4 for adults and $3 for children. The festivities begin at 7 p.m. and end when “people stop coming.
