Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning Commissioner Thomas Meredith resigned today effective November 15.
According to a statement issued by the IHL, Meredith will be available to the Board of Trustees until that time.
“The board is expected to accept Commissioner Meredith’s request during its next meeting, currently scheduled for Friday, October 24, 2008,” according to the statement.
“During his tenure, Commissioner Meredith made a positive difference for Mississippi’s eight public universities and within Mississippi’s public education system,” said IHL Board President Amy Whitten. “We are grateful for his many accomplishments, and are confident his vision of increasing the quantity of baccalaureate degree holders of even higher quality will continue.”
The Reflector will have updates on Meredith’s resignation and Friday’s IHL meeting in Jackson as they become available.
