Jed Pressgrove is a graduate student in sociology. He can be contacted at [email protected].You learn a lot from political coverage. The past week has been especially nurturing to my knowledge bank.
Ergo, a substantial change in my political orientation occurred March 30. I am voting for Hillary Clinton now.
I consider this a new chapter in the book I call “My Life As a Book.” This new chapter is brought to you by inspiration, which was brought to me by the similarly inspired news organization known as CNN.
To be accurate, I was born again online at CNN.com. This is proof the Internet can have a positive effect on the individual.
They have this link on CNN.com that reads “The Political Ticker.” This link rightfully falls under the umbrella of “Hot Topics,” this one so hot I started to imagine my mouse setting my hand aflame.
The headline almost sold me to Clinton’s side instantaneously. The headline was “Sen. Clinton can’t wait for upcoming film on the Rolling Stones.”
“Call her a Honky Tonk Woman,” the article began. I will call her a Honky Tonk Woman, yes, I will.
I am thankful for the First Amendment and its freedom of the press idea. Barriers to knowing Clinton is a Rolling Stones fan should be eradicated.
“Wait!” I thought. “What if Clinton only pretends to love the Rolling Stones to have my hand mark her name on the ballot?”
Journalism took aim at this doubt with a semi-automatic rifle and shot its eyeballs. I learned Clinton “admired” the “work ethic” of Rolling Stones lead singer Mick Jagger.
“He is very disciplined, he works out, and he’s incredibly devoted to what he does,” Clinton said describing Jagger. I then knew for sure Clinton knew her music.
I enjoy the illumination of context’s lantern. CNN.com reports Clinton’s mother is “an even bigger fan of the Stones,” and if only I could have first revealed this exciting tidbit for a small dose of journalistic glory.
Then I said to myself, “Great Scot!” I had been preoccupied with Clinton’s great quality and had just remembered a new Rolling Stones film approaching theaters.
Not any Rolling Stones film but one directed by Martin Scorsese. Which got me to thinking.
What if Clinton was president and Scorsese offered her a role in a moving picture? That did it.
It did. From that point and onward as far as I can see, I will vote for Clinton now, that Honky Tonk Woman.
I would recommend “The Political Ticker” on CNN.com. Especially if you ain’t doing anything of worth because worthy moments, I promise, will transpire while reading these updates of political candidates and what they believe and how they will change America and why you might want to vote for them.
