Possible evidence of theft uncovered in MSU student’s slaying

Mississippi State student Andrew Galanis told his friend a day before his death that thousands of dollars had been stolen from his bank account, the Sun Herald reports. The 28-year-old Biloxi native was scheduled to fly to Florida to visit friends over spring break. Galanis’ friend, Matt Sfirakis, learned of the stolen money after calling Galanis Thursday.
Galanis told his friend $3,000 to $5,000 was missing from his account. The bank official told Galanis the money was withdrawn through ATM receipts, as well as money to restaurants and casinos.
In December, Galanis received a new ATM card with a pin number and he left it on his bedroom desk in his apartment.
It is not known who used the ATM card. Galanis told his friend he never uses the ATM.
On Friday afternoon, deputies with the Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Department found Galanis’ body in a vacant bedroom in his apartment. They arrested Bobby Batiste, 28, and charged him with capital murder. He is being held without bond.
Police haven’t releasd any additional details at this time. Autopsy results of Galanis’ body from Jackson are also pending.
    Both individuals were MSU students.
