Last week, Jerry Gilbert, Mississippi State University provost and executive vice president, announced the hiring of new MSU registrar John Dickerson effective Jan. 16, 2013.
“We started the process in the summer and put together a committee with Tim Chamblee as head chair,” Gilbert said. “We had members of the registrar’s office, members of the graduate school, Student Association, department heads, Admissions and Scholarships, an associate dean and Dr. Chamblee as the chairman.”
Gilbert said faculty from the registrar’s office served on the committee along with members of other positions that will interface with the office of the registrar.
Dickerson comes to MSU from Copiah-Lincoln Community College where he served as vice president of its Simpson County Center. Gilbert said Dickerson holds a lot of functions at Co-Lin, and said he brings a wealth of experience to MSU.
“He has a lot of responsibility as vice president for the campus of Co-Lin,” Gilbert said. “He has a lot of responsibility in recruitment, retention and maintaining the campus environment.”
Gilbert also said Dickerson previously worked at MSU as an employee in Student Affairs where he worked with admissions, orientations, scholarships and student recruitment. Gilbert also said the new registrar has computer systems experience since Co-Lin uses the same Banner system as MSU.
Lynn Reinschmiedt and Linda Buehler served as interim co-registrars during the search to permanently fill the position.
Other position searches are beginning for the dean of Arts and Sciences, the associate vice president and dean of the graduate school, and the executive director of the Center for Distance Education. The search committees are being chaired by Sharon Oswald, Bill Herndon and Scott Maynard.
