On Tuesday, the Mississippi State University Student Association (SA) hosted the 2015 Homecoming Elections via an online ballot. This included polling for Mr. and Miss MSU, freshman, sophomore, junior and senior maids as well as homecoming queen.
With 880 votes or 19.38 percent of the vote share going to two candidates for homecoming queen, the election resulted with Katie Berry and Christina Bostick ending in a tie.
A runoff election between the two candidates is scheduled for Oct. 1.
Jamie Aron, MSU SA elections commissioner, said Homecoming elections were scheduled this week to take place before the Homecoming Game.
“Due to fall break, we set the date two weeks before the Homecoming game,” Aron said, “According to the constitution, should there be a runoff, it will be held the Thursday following the Tuesday Election Day.”
According to Aron, candidates have been given a chance to campaign again on Thursday.
“You should see them around campus tomorrow, their run off budget is $25,” she said.
With 1547 votes or 35.82 percent of the vote share, Annaleigh Coleman was elected Miss MSU, Christian Good, with 35.39 vote percentage or 1506 votes was named Mr. MSU.
Other winners included, Mayah Emerson and Stephanie Flynt for freshmen Maids, Mackenzie Smith and Madison Rhodes for sophomore Maids, Holly Travis and Brooke Laizer for junior maids and Luz Martinez and Kaylie Mitchell for senior maids.
Voting will work the same as on Tuesday. Elections will take place online through one.msstate.edu, by clicking on the OrgSync icon. SA’s website informs an account hasalready been created for voters, so once on the website, voters need to sign in with a NetID and NetPassword. From there, voters can click on the “Vote Now” button on the OrgSync home page to access the ballot.
