The Mississippi State University baseball team has parted ways with pitching coach Scott Foxhall amidst a tumultuous season.
Foxhall was in the middle of his fifth season at MSU and was an integral part of the 2021 national championship team. Since then, Foxhall’s staff has allowed more than six average earned runs, a mark that earned MSU last in the SEC.
MSU head coach Chris Lemonis issued a statement on Foxhall’s release.
“Mississippi State is the premier program in college baseball,” Lemonis said in the press release. “There’s no question our expectations are to be the gold standard of the sport…I can assure you we are going to continue to work, prepare and compete as hard as possible to put a product on the field that meets the standard of Mississippi State baseball.”
Lemonis and Foxhall have been close friends throughout the head skipper’s tenure, and Lemonis spoke on this in the same release.
“I want to thank Scott for his contributions to Mississippi State over the last five years, and I am appreciative of all he’s devoted to our program. He has played a significant role on our staff during his time here, including helping us win a College World Series Championship. I sincerely wish Scott and his family the absolute best in the future,” Lemonis said.
There has been no official word from MSU on who will be the interim pitching coach. This is a developing story.
