A Federal Bureau of Investigation informational meeting will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday in room 329 of the Colvard Student Union.
FBI interest meetings are held once per semester at Mississippi State University.
The meeting, led by FBI representative Erica Parker, will give students a chance to learn more about the types of careers offered by the FBI. The meeting will be primarily held for upperclassmen and graduate students, but it is open to all classifications and majors.
Parker, who is currently working in Jackson, Miss., said she recruits for FBI positions all across the country.
“It’s never too early to start looking at what types of positions we hire, how your major can be used and what we might be looking for in the future,” Parker said.
Parker said she also hopes the meeting will dispel any misconceptions students have about the FBI as seen in movies and television shows.
“You don’t have to be an agent, you don’t have to carry a gun or be transferred all over the place,” Parker said. “We have such a variety of things that are available. We just try to get the word out.”
Scott Maynard, director of the Career Center, said the event is for students in any field of study.
“The (FBI) hires a wide range of fields,” Maynard said. “They’ll talk to all majors.”
Parker confirmed this and said careers in the FBI can range from intelligence analyst to electronic technician to accountant.
“We hire just about everybody. We investigate all federal crimes, so we have to have people with knowledge and abilities in all different areas,” Parker said. “There are all different types of positions out there.”
Sam Miller, freshman communication major, said he is interested in the FBI and looks forward to attending future meetings, especially when he is closer to graduation.
“I am looking forward to attending,” Miller said. “I am not a senior yet, but it sounds like an exciting job. Plus, I would be able to contribute to society.”
