The Reflector recently sent a survey to fans of Mississippi State Athletics, asking them to choose their favorite uniform combinations for designated sports. One hundred and nine Bulldog fans responded. 

Football

The football team had the most uniform combinations to choose from, as there are differences in helmet, jersey and pants color and style. The uniform combinations were taken from the 2025-26 season. 

1. Black State script helmet, black jersey, black pants – 55% voted as their favorite 
2. White interlocked helmet, white jersey, white pants – 13.8% voted as their favorite 
3. Maroon State script helmet, maroon jersey, grey pants – 10.1% voted as their favorite 
4. Maroon State script helmet, maroon jersey, white pants – 9.2% voted as their favorite
5. White State script helmet, white jersey, maroon pants – 3.7% voted as their favorite 
6. White interlocked helmet, white jersey, grey pants – 0.9% voted as their favorite 
7. White interlocked helmet, maroon jersey, white pants – 0.9% voted as their favorite 

The all-black uniforms were voted the No. 1 favorite by over half of the responses. These were a new addition to the 2025 season and were referred to as the “dark mode” uniforms. 

The dark mode jerseys made their debut on Sept. 6 during the first home game of the season against Arizona State, which was also a blackout theme for fans — this was arguably the most memorable game of the season. Mississippi State won 24-20 against ASU, and fans stormed the field, causing ESPN to rank the game the No. 8 college football game of the season. 

The all-black was also worn for the bowl game on Jan. 2 against Wake Forest, with the addition of a Duke’s Mayo Bowl patch on the jersey. The Bulldogs lost 29-43 against the Demon Deacons. 

Because these two games were the only appearances for the dark mode uniforms, the Bulldogs have a 1-1 record wearing them, but they will always be iconic for the top-15 non-conference win over the Sundevils. 

Another combination this past season was the one worn in Fayetteville during the game against Arkansas, with 0.9% of fans voting it as their favorite. The Bulldogs played in the white interlocked helmets, white jerseys, and grey pants. Arkansas marked the first conference win of 2025 for Head Coach Jeff Lebby, marking his first SEC victory as leader of the Dawgs.

Baseball

Baseball also had many options from the 2025 season, but similar to football, one of them was heavily favored over the others. 

1. Maroon hat, white pinstripe jersey, white pinstripe pants – 44% voted as their favorite 
2. Maroon hat, black State script jersey, white pants – 13.8% voted as their favorite 
3. Maroon hat, maroon 85 jersey, grey pants – 11% voted as their favorite 
4. Maroon hat, maroon 85 jersey, white pants – 10.1% voted as their favorite 
5. White hat, black State script jersey, white pants – 8.3% voted as their favorite 
6. Maroon hat, white 85 jersey, white pants – 6.4% voted as their favorite 
7. Maroon hat, maroon State script jersey, white pants – 6.4% voted as their favorite 

Coming in at No. 1 were the all-white pinstripes and maroon hat. 

These uniforms made nine appearances last season, and the Bulldogs had a 6-3 record wearing them. They were worn for both of the third games in the series against Kentucky and Ole Miss, which were both wins, and they were also worn for the SEC first round against Texas A&M. 

The Bulldogs wore the all-white pinstripes for the last win of the season, which was against Northeastern in the Tallahassee Regional Elimination Game. MSU then lost to Florida State, wearing the maroon 85 jerseys,  ending its 2025 season. 

In this current season, the white pinstripes have made five appearances on the field. 

Men’s basketball

Men’s and women’s basketball do not have nearly the same amount of uniform combinations as football and baseball do, but the men’s had a strong favorite among fans. 

1. Black STATE jersey, black pants – 52.3% voted as their favorite 
2. Grey State script jersey, grey pants – 15.9% voted as their favorite 
3. Maroon STATE jersey, maroon pants – 13.1% voted as their favorite 
4. White Mississippi State jersey, white pants – 12.1% voted as their favorite 
5. White STATE jersey, white pants – 6.5% voted as their favorite 

The all-black look took the trophy for basketball as it did for football. The Bulldogs repped the blackout during the first round of the 2025 SEC Tournament, which they lost 79-61 against Auburn. They wore them when they previously played Auburn and won 91-85, but could not do the same during the next match-up. 

MSU wore these uniforms for 12 games of the 2025-26 season and had a 6-6 record in them. The least favored jerseys were also worn 12 times and had a 7-5 record. 

Women’s basketball

Last up was women’s basketball, which was a close comparison for two of the jersey combinations. 

1. White State script jersey, white pants – 35.2% voted as their favorite 
2. Pink and white State script jersey, pink and white pants – 34.3% voted as their favorite 
3. Black State script jersey, black pants – 22.2% voted as their favorite 
4. Maroon State script jersey, maroon pants – 8.3% voted as their favorite 

The all-white and the pink-and-white uniforms were neck and neck during voting, but the all-white ended up being the fans’ favorite. 

The Bulldogs wore all-white uniforms 16 times, winning 13 of those games. The Bulldogs opened their season with the first three games in all-white jerseys. 

A close second were the pink-and-white uniforms, worn only once during the 2025-26 season, on Feb. 1 against Missouri, in an 88-80 loss for the Bulldogs. These uniforms were worn for their annual Think Pink game, honoring those who have been affected by breast cancer.

The jerseys that student-athletes wear matter to the fans, and it seemed that, from the votes, blackouts are typically the favorite combinations.
