The Mitchell Memorial Library will host its ninth annual book sale from 9 a.m.-noon Saturday. The book sale will be located on the second floor of the library.
Hardback and softback books will sell for $1, and small paperbacks will sell for 50 cents. Customers will also be able to fill up a bargain bag with books for $5.
The sale will include books on all subjects and will mostly be used books, said Janet Ames, a library associate who helped coordinate the book sale. She added that in the past the campus bookstore has donated old textbooks to the sale as well.
The book sale will also include two specially-priced books. Chester McKee’s book “Campus Brat” will cost $24.95 and Sonny Montgomery’s book “Sonny Montgomery: The Veteran’s Champion” will sell for $25. Customers may have these books mailed to them for a $5 fee.
“I think the book sale is a good way to encourage students to come and see what the library has to offer,” Ames said. “They may be able to find essential books for their fields.”
The library uses the book sale to sell some of the books that they have multiple copies of. The other books used for the sale come from donations that people have given to the library.
The proceeds of the book sale will go to the purchase of new library materials, including books and other supplies.
Glen Berry, collection location supervisor, said that 10-12 volunteers and five or six staff members will work the tables. Most volunteers just sign up to help with the sale.
Library worker Roderick Pittman said he thinks that the book sale will be a great success.
“This is a way to include the campus in an event for the library,” Pittman said.
“It also gives people that have been past graduates of Mississippi State a chance to see the new library and meet the new staff,” Ames said.
