Delta Gamma will hold DG Milk and Cookies from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday, Feb. 26-27. The sorority will sell milk and homemade cookies both nights. Anyone can buy two cookies, chocolate chip or sugar and milk for $2.
“We are really excited about this new fund-raiser,” Delta Gamma Vice President of Foundation Kathryn Adamson said. “We want to give students, faculty and Starkville residents the opportunity to enjoy something homemade while helping to serve their community.”
Delta Gamma members will cook, package and deliver the milk and cookies. Service tips concerning eye safety awareness will accompany each order. The sorority will use the money to benefit its philanthropies: Service for Sight and Aid to the Blind, Scholarships, Fellowships, Loans and Lectureship in Values and Ethics.
Delta Gamma at MSU work throughout the year to raise awareness concerning blindness and low vision awareness.
“We collect eyeglasses, work with the Lutheran Braille Project and help conduct eye testing at local elementary schools,” Adamson said. “We also have a display in the Low Vision Awareness Center on campus. The display showcases the training aids used by Mississippi State to better equip teachers working with low vision students. The display contains magnifying eyeglasses, games geared to the visually impaired and computer programs that translate English into Braille.”
Delta Gamma Milk and Cookies is the first of two fund-raisers Delta Gamma will participate in this spring. In April, the sorority members plan to sell and deliver Krispy Kreme doughnuts. Each fund-raiser is an opportunity for the girls to donate time and raise money for visually impaired people, according to Adamson.
“Delta Gamma would really appreciate the support of anyone in the area during DG Milk and Cookies,” Delta Gamma Director of Fund-raising Abby Barber said. “The cookies are a delicious dessert or midnight snack, and participation in the fund-raiser allows Starkville residents to give back to their community and schools.”
Delivery is available for on campus housing, including all dorms, fraternity and sorority row by calling 325-4631. Anyone who lives off campus can pick the cookies up at the Delta Gamma house.
