Haven 12 apartments will provide Mississippi State University students a new housing option on campus beginning August of 2015.
Kristen Hubbard, property manager of Haven 12, said Haven 12 will hold its grand opening on April 17 and the move-in date is August 15.
“We will be having our grand opening during the Super Bulldog Weekend,” Hubbard said.
Hubbard said the apartment complex is located at 940 Hwy. 12 East. The apartments are available in two, three and four bedrooms and the sizes are 907 square ft and 1490 square ft, respectively.
“The owners of the company are Haven Campus Communities, and this is their first property in Starkville,” Hubbard said.
According to Hubbard, there are a total of 536 bedrooms.
“We have a state-of-the-art fitness center, resort style pool and sun deck, coffee bar, tanning bed, game room and computer center,” Hubbard said.
Jessy Ingram, leasing manager of Haven 12, said the new living complex will be located less than a mile from the Dudy Noble baseball field on MSU’s campus.
“It will be a better choice,” Ingram said. “You would be able to go to all sporting events early.”
Ingram said the complex will have an ample outdoor grilling area and two different hammock areas.
“If anyone in a particular organization wanted to live in the same building, that could be arranged,” Ingram said.
The complex will be gated and all apartments will have key code access for entry.
Mckenzie Copeland, leasing consultant of Haven 12, said all the apartments are furnished and the rates for four bedroom apartments start at $529, three bedroom apartments at $545 and two bedroom apartments at $625.
There is also a $35 cap on electricity.
“The furnishing includes wood tile floors, stainless steel appliances and a large flat screen TV,” Copeland said.
Copeland said the complex will have a lot of green area outside, and the location of the complex will make it very convenient for both students and parents to attend sporting events.
According to Copeland, Haven 12 is a pet-friendly apartment complex and will use the MSU SMART buses to make transportation more convenient. According to Copeland, Haven 12 will host a pet competition at the Drill Field soon.
“The most popular pet will win a prize,” Copeland said. “There will be treats for pets and food for students.”
Copeland said students are encouraged to follow Haven 12 on Facebook, Instagram and their Twitter handle @haven12_apts.
Taylor Szasz, senior biological engineering major, said since so many students and freshmen are encouraged to live on campus, space is limited in residence halls.
“If the university is expanding at the rate it is, I definitely see a need for a newer complex,” Szasz said. “Given the options people already have living close to campus, anything would be an improvement.”
Caleb Mckee, senior agricultural engineering major, said the rates sound fair for apartments coming in new and furnished.
“The inconvenience might be the walking distance from campus,” Caleb said.
