Three years ago on Sept. 11, America got a wake-up call. Terrorism attacked us on a personal level. Americans died that day, and the rest of us waited in fear to find out what happened.
For the past three years we have dealt with terrorism, war, controversy and countless criticisms for how various people handled the national and international security. Everything has come to a head as the presidential elections have brought opposing sides into conflict over these very issues.
This Sept. 11 will be a day to remember all those who died in the terrorist attacks, as well as all those who have died in the subsequent War on Terrorism. Saturday will be a day to let go of all the controversy and simply mourn the tragedy.
While you remember the tragedy, know that the presidential candidates also remember those deaths. No matter your choice of candidate, he will do his utmost to protect our country from terrorist attacks.
This is not a time for campaigning or candidate bashing, but instead this is the time to pay tribute to our fellow countrymen who have given their lives for the American dream-freedom from oppression and from fear.
Three years ago we were united as a country against all who would attack us. Let us keep that spirit of unity and always remember.
