The Lady Bulldog soccer team will hit the road this weekend for this first time this season to compete in the Kansas Invitational Tournament.
MSU enters weekend play riding a modest two-game winning streak after beating Middle Tennessee 2-1 and Northwestern State 3-1 at home last weekend.
Up first for the Bulldogs will be St. Louis University. The Billikens (0-1-1) dropped a 2-1 decision to Illinois State over the weekend.
Despite the winless record, St. Louis is picked to finish second in Conference USA.
“We’re working real hard in practice and we’re going in with a lot of confidence, and we’re ready to win,” defender Sara Moore said.
State’s final contest in Kansas will be Sunday against the University of Milwaukee-Wisconsin. The Lady Panthers are coming off back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances and are picked to win the Horizon League.
“As long as we all work hard and win the first and second ball, everything else will fall into place,” midfielder April Berry said. “We’re going to play hard and win the balls and see what we can do.”
UM-W enters play with a 1-1 overall record, most recently falling 2-1 to Indiana.
Finishing shots is still a concern for MSU. The Bulldogs took 37 shots Sunday, converting on only three.
“It’s something we need to keep working on,” head coach Neil MacDonald said. “A lot of the girls tend not to relax in front of the goal and that is why they are squandering these opportunities.”
Game times are set for 2:30 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. Sunday. Both games will take place on the University of Kansas campus in Lawrence.
