The Sixth Annual Turkey Trot 5K will jog to life Saturday. The race will begin at the Sanderson Center and stop around Chadwick Lake, Barr Avenue and the Coliseum. The race will conclude at the Sanderson Center.
Participants can register from 7-7:45 a.m. The race will begin at 8 a.m. The cost of registration is three canned goods and $12 before the race or $15 the day of the race. Participants will receive a T-shirt and post-race refreshments.
The top three male and female finishers will be given awards, and several prizes will be raffled off.
“The main purpose of the race is to have fun,” said Brent Crocker, assistant director of the Sanderson Center. “There is also a canned food drive planned along with the race to help out the Starkville food pantry.”
Participants can still register the day of the race if they choose. The 5K run is for all ages and all levels of runners.
After the race is over, a 1-mile fun walk will be open for whoever chooses to stay around.
“We are looking for about 70 to 90 participants in this year’s race. Last year we had about 60 people participate,” Crocker added.
All roads along the path of the race will be closed. The race should not last more than one hour.
Sponsors included Recreational Sports, MSU Police, Campus Bookmart, Sam Goody, Foodmax and Runner’s World magazine.
