Beth Irwin has grabbed two Top 20 finishes in five events this season at MSU. The junior from Germantown, Tenn., averages a score of 78 over 18 holes. After much deliberation, Irwin finally came to a conclusion on her favorite shot to hit.
“I like to hit a nine wood with a slight draw onto the green,” Irwin said.
Irwin said her nine-wood can go up to 165 yards and she puts a few yards of right-to-left spin on the ball by taking her club inside and around her body. The nine wood is a very rare commodity to the average golfer, who usually carries a six or five iron instead of another wood.
