No. 17 Mississippi State continues its fall campaign, traveling to Bayonet Point, Fla., for the USF/Beacon Woods Invitational. The 54-hole tournament will be played at the par 72 6,015-yard Beacon Woods Golf Course. Competing for the Lady Bulldogs will be Beth Irwin, Sofie Andersson, Natalie Booth, Anna Knutsson and Catalina Olarte. Irwin, a sophomore from Germantown, Tenn., leads the team and is currently seventh in the SEC with a 74.20 stroke average.
This will be the twelfth time that MSU has competed at Beacon Woods. The Lady Bulldogs have appeared in 11 of the last 12 tournaments, and won the 1999 classic.
The Beacon Woods Invitational marks the first time this season that State will face both Mississippi and Southern Miss. in the same tournament. The Lady Rebels, who won the 2001 Beacon Woods, played in the season-opening Lady Kat Invitational, in which MSU finished in third place.
Also competing in the tournament will be No. 22 South Florida, Central Florida, Florida International, Georgia State, Memphis, Miami, Rollins, Tulane and UAB.
“This tournament marks the midpoint of our fall season,” MSU head coach Christi Sanders said. “Although we have placed well in our first two tournaments we continue to improve our scoring and I feel that this week will be no exception.”
Play begins on Friday with an 8 a.m. start off of the first tee.
