Senior defensive lineman Nick James was arrested at 1:36 a.m. at Rick’s Cafe early Sunday morning for public intoxication.
The Starkville Police Department arrested James, and the Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s office had no information on the arrest due to their computer system being down.
Mississippi State University released this statement: “Coach Dan Mullen is aware of an incident involving Nick James that occurred last night, and he is currently getting more information on it.”
This is James’ fourth arrest in the last three years while here at Mississippi State. In 2013, James was arrested for driving without insurance. In Oct. 2014, he was arrested for driving with a suspended license and disorderly conduct. On Feb. 15, 2015, he was also arrested for public intoxication.
The 2012 four-star recruit played in every game last season. In his career, he has played 34 games and started 10. He has 43 total tackles and one forced fumble. He is expected to be the starting nose tackle this season.
Mississippi State opens up their season on Saturday at 11 a.m.
