The Mississippi State University Police Department is currently investigating a series of car burglaries on campus, Detective Brad Massey, the lead investigator of the case, said.
“The incidents have been going on all semester, but after the Alcorn State game at the beginning of October, [the car burglaries] began to pick up,” he said.
The MSU Police Department has made one arrest thus far, he said.
Massey said the investigation is still ongoing.
“We’re still looking into leads and making arrests down the road,” he said.
Massey said other possible suspects have been identified and the burglaries are interconnected.
MSU Police Chief Georgia Lindley said students should take precautions to avoid becoming victims of burglary.
“Students need to lock their car doors,” she said. “In a lot of these cases, the doors [were unlocked].”
She said students should contact the police department if they see someone acting suspicious in the parking lot or around vehicles.
“It always helps to have an extra set of eyes and ears,” she said.
The police department can be contacted at 325-2121.
