Mississippi State Athletics hosted their annual Fan Day on Saturday in the Palmeiro Center, allowing fans to meet their favorite players and coaches.
Hundreds of fans waited in line, anxious to see the players, who will electrify Davis Wade Stadium in two weeks. Fans of all ages lined the walls eagerly clutching their soon to be signed memorabilia.
Matthew Bazzy, a junior from Auburn, Alabama, said the MSU Fan Day far exceeds other SEC school’s fan days.
“I grew up an Auburn fan and went to almost every Auburn Fan Day, but this fan day is a much better experience and far more organized,” Bazzy said.
Along with meeting the players and coaches, fans also had the opportunity to see the golden Egg Bowl trophy, which is back in Starkville after the Bulldogs defeated Ole Miss last season.
The fan day also offered a Kid Zone, which gave children the opportunity to show off their football skills in front of coaches, players and cheerleaders.
Cheryl Floyd, a fan visiting from Birmingham, Alabama, smiled as she said she looks forward to the upcoming season.
“I think the coaches are great and under their leadership, I think they’ll go far,” said Floyd, “I’m excited about the team, and today has been a ton of fun.”
Fan Day provided a great experience for the bulldog faithful, but it also provided players and coaches a chance to be rejuvenated by the support.
Tight end coach D.J. Looney explained the immense value fans bring to the program.
“It is an unbelievable deal, a great thing that our players get to come out and meet everybody,” Looney said. “It is just good. We appreciate our fans. We need our fans so much at home—they create an awesome environment. It is amazing.”
