Mississippi State junior defensive back Maurice Langston has been suspended indefinitely after being arrested and charged with possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute.
Hattiesburg police pulled over Langston and his passenger, James Jenkins, in a routine traffic stop Saturday. Suspicious activity and the smell of marijuana caused officers to search the vehicle, according to an HPD press release.
The search uncovered about a pound of marijuana, with a street value of about $1,000 as well as $500 in cash, which were seized.
Langston was released Monday from the Forrest Count Regional Jail on $10,000 bond, according to Forrest County Sheriff Deputy Lisa Johnson.
Mississippi State spokesman Joe Galbraith would not comment further than confirming Langston’s suspension
“As of Monday morning, Maurice Langston has been suspended indefinitely from the football team with the exception of study hall and any academic responsibilities,” Galbraith said.
Langston signed with MSU in December, transferring from East Central Community College. At ECCC, Langston was an all-state and all-region wide receiver, but was expected to help out State’s secondary as a defensive back.
