Here at State, Ole Miss is not our only rival.
Let’s not forget about that school down U.S. Highway 82.
It was Alabama that cost us our No. 3 ranking back in ’04, and it was Bama that embarrassed us 98-49 on ESPN two seasons ago.
But apparently some people in Bama feel that State is not to be respected in any sport!
Back on Sept. 30, a student named Bobby Bozeman decided he would give State a piece of his mind in an article entitled “Mississippi State should be banned from the SEC.”
“Leave and go to a conference where you can lose to teams such as Tulane every year,” Bozeman said. “Go to C-USA, start winning more than one or two games a season and more kids are going to want to play for you.”
He then recommends our replacement by Southern Miss, Memphis or Houston.
I have just a few words of encouragement for Mr. Bozeman.
The people of Mississippi State will not tolerate these slanderous allegations against our programs.
Sure MSU athletics, in the words of Langston Hughes, “Ain’t always been no crystal stair,” but MSU has earned its right to belong in the SEC and nobody can take that away from them.
Teams are not invited or kicked out a conference based on their record, just look at Kentucky or Vanderbilt.
Apparently Mr. Bozeman should go and do a little research before he beings making bold statements in campus columns.
Bama is only one up in the men’s basketball series with State, 7-6. From ’01 to ’06 Bama only won the second game once.
Their men’s tennis team has not beaten the Bulldosg in years.
The women’s basketball team has only lost to them twice in four years.
So no disrespect Mr. Bozeman, but you are wrong!
Maybe this is a good thing, though.
Perhaps MSU should be honored that such a storied program would be worried and have such ill-will towards little ole us.
Let’s make it official.
Highway 82 trophy?
Why not?
“Realistically, Mississippi State only has two more chances to win another game this year … Jacksonville State and Kentucky,” Bozeman said.
And you know what Mr.Bozeman? You were were almost right.
MSU did lose to almost everyone one else, and they did beat Jacksonville State.
But turns out we didn’t win that Kentucky game, our other victory came last Saturday to your Crimson Tide.
Watch your words, Mr. Bozeman, and enjoy your taste of Humble Pie.
