Scotty Dubrule made his national championship run in 2021 with the Mississippi State University Bulldogs. In 2020, the second baseman entered the NCAA transfer portal with one year left of eligibility. MSU picked him up from Jacksonville State University in Florida.
When walking into the Bulldog program, Dubrule knew they were going to be gunning for the national title. He stepped up and contributed to the MSU title in a big way. For many, the heroes of the championship run were Tanner Allen and Rowdey Jordan, and rightfully so, but Dubrule’s value to the first title in program history cannot be overstated.
In their first game of the College World Series, Dubrule was in the batter’s box twice, producing one RBI and a sacrifice fly, helping them to a 2-1 win over Texas. Dubrule’s RBI in the fourth put the first point on the board with a run from Kamren James. Dubrule had one fielding assist, zero errors and a 1.0 fielding percentage in the Texas win.
In their second game, Dubrule had another two at-bats, this time with a base hit and an RBI. Dubrule’s RBI was a single through the left side of the field that allowed Tanner Leggett to cross home plate, making the score 6-4. Dubrule stayed on the field long enough in the eighth inning to cross home plate, adding another run to the Bulldog 6-5 win over Virginia. Dubrule showed out in the field with three putouts, three assists and zero errors for a combined 1.0 fielding percentage.
The third game of the championship was a hard loss for the Bulldogs against Texas (8-5), but in the fourth game, the Bulldogs came back to beat Texas 4-3, securing the best-of-three battle against the Longhorns.
In the final three games of the College World Series, Dubrule had a season high of four RBIs in game two vs. Vanderbilt. In the third inning of game two, Dubrule hit a single which resulted in a double RBI from Kamren James’s and Luke Hancock’s runs. Then Dubrule crossed home plate himself, bringing the score to 6-1 in the Bulldogs’ favor. In the fourth and seventh innings, Dubrule had two more RBI’s, completing the season high for him, as well as assisting in the Bulldog win over Vanderbilt (13-2).
During Dubrule’s final three games in the field, he had a total of five putouts, six assists and zero errors. Dubrule ended the College World Series with zero errors and a 1.0 fielding percentage, only allowing three errors his entire senior season and an over .987 fielding average.
Dubrule was at bat for a total of 12 times in all three of the final games, for a total of four runs scored, three base hits, and four RBIs. Dubrule ended the year with a batting average of .278 for the 2021 season.
