Since we, the students of MSU, are representing our university as we scamper along on our spring travels, it is our duty to show other students that we are just as cool as the rest. Just to make sure we don’t commit any faux pas while we venture to exotic locations, here’s a few rules that MSU students should follow in an attempt to represent good ol’ State.
Rule 1: No Napoleon quotes. Sure, “Napoleon Dynamite” was hilarious. But the habit of adding a Napoleon or Kip quote to every situation gets old… fast. If you feel the need to quote the film, make sure it’s a worthy moment and limit yourself to one a week.
Rule 2: We are not known as the drinking college. That “honor” goes to the other school. But if you feel the need to tear down that stereotype, make sure you can handle your liquor. Don’t get tipsy after a shot. If you are a lightweight with the booze, don’t drink in public. We may not be known as the school of drinking, but by god we better not be known as the school of pansies.
Rule 3: If you’re somewhere where MTV is, it’s fine to get on camera. But if Carson Daly is hosting, then hold on to your 15 minutes of fame a little longer. That guy is a tool and beneath the dignity of MSU students.
Rule 4: The South boasts that it has the most beautiful people, and it’s no stretch to say that our campus is filled with yummy eye-candy. So in order to help perpetuate this claim it’s important that the students visiting the beaches remember those things that will never be in style or attractive: socks with sandals, pasty white legs in Bermuda shorts, back hair, Ole Miss apparel, Bermuda shorts in general, satanic tattoos and guys in Speedos.
By adhering to these rules, students are still able to have fun (notice: keg stands, body shots and gratuitous flirting are not prohibited) while maintaining an air of respectability. Remember, just because we are out of classes over Spring Break doesn’t mean we should behave like students with no class.
