The Lady Bulldogs had a successful weekend at the University of Kentucky, finishing eighth overall in the Southeastern Conference Championships and having many individuals post personal best marks.The weekend began on Friday with sophomore Marrissa Harris posting a fifth-place finish in the women’s pentathlon.
She finished the event with 3,803 points, a new school record, and earned an NCAA provisional qualifying mark.
Freshman Laquinta Aaron also competed in the pentathlon, finishing ninth with 3,408 points.
Harris posted personal best marks in all five of her events.
She finished with a time of 8.63 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles and posted a throw of 36-4 in the shot put.
In jump events, Harris carded a jump of five feet, four and a half inches in the high jump and a jump of 19 feet in the long jump.
She concluded her night with a time of 2:33.87 in the 800-meter run.
On Saturday, four Bulldogs posted personal best marks.
Junior Annie Falor turned in a time of five minutes, 16.18 seconds in the 300-meter run to finish atop her section.
Sophomore Brittany Detzel also recorded a personal best time in her 800-meter run, with a time of 2:17.69.
Both Laquinta Aaron and sophomore Gabrielle Dillon posted personal best times in the 200-meter run with times of 24.84 and 25.02, respectively.
Sunday’s competition opened with senior Nicola Wilson posted a season-best mark in the shot put finals with a throw of 48-11 1/2.
Her fourth-place finish in the event gives her back-to-back top five finishes in the SEC championships.
In the triple jump competition, freshman Wendy Copeland registered a jump of 39-7.
Her jump ranks third all time in the MSU record books.
The distance medley run squad turned in a time of 11 minutes, 54.14 seconds to finish eighth in the event.
The University of Tennessee claimed the league title while 2006 SEC Champions Georgia finished second.
LSU, Arkansas, and South Carolina rounded out the top five.
The SEC championships conclude the indoor season for the Bulldogs.
Both the men and women’s track teams will open their outdoor season next Friday in Tallahassee, Fla., competing at the Florida State Snowbird meet.
