Funds have been earmarked and architects appointed at Mississippi State University for two new multi-storied dormitories and a wing to the Harned biology building.
Architects for the new facilities are Thomas S. Jones and Associates of Starkville. Preliminary plans are now being prepared.
The new men’s high-rise dormitory may go as high as 11 stories and will have an estimated 312 rooms for 624 students. To be located on the north side of the campus near other men’s dormitories, it will be constructed for $1,779,000.
The women’s dormitory may be as high as seven stories, with an estimated 264 rooms for 528 coeds. To be located on the south of the campus near Cresswell Hall and another women’s dorm currently under construction, the new facility will cost about $1,665,000.
Both of these dormitories should be ready for occupancy in the fall semester of 1967. The women’s dormitory and the men’s dormitory now under construction should be ready for the fall of ’66.
Money for the two new dormitories is being provided from revenue bonds.
The wing to Harned Hall, which houses, for the most part, laboratories and classrooms of the Division of Science, will be built for some $637,500, of which $212,500 is provided by a federal facilities grant. The three story addition will enhance both teaching and research programs.
