These are brief statements submitted by candidates for Student Association executive office at the request of The Reflector. These statements appear as they were submitted by the candidates. The
Reflector staff has not edited for content or grammar. As a third generation MSU Bulldog, I am very passionate about this University and its students. My name is Ross Weems, and I am a Banking and Finance major from West Point, MS. I have a solid background of service to Mississippi State, its organizations, and the Starkville Community. For the past two and a half years, I have served in numerous organizations on campus which have helped shape me as an individual and have taught me many valuable lessons. The constitution lays out the SA Treasurer duties such as preparing, managing and maintaining the SA Budget and the powers such as budget changes, expenditures, and appropriations. The Treasurer is also required to serve on various committees that involve SA financial matters. I understand these requirements, and I am ready to except the challenge. However, I would like to expand the role of SA Treasurer to cross-plan with other SA Executive and Cabinet members in order to create a more effective SA at MSU. I plan to publish Quarterly Budget and Student Activity Reports in order to make the students more aware of SA expenditures. However, I cannot accomplish this without the support of the MSU students.
As a candidate running against worthy opponents qualified in the financial field, I am qualified in the leadership, financial, and student association areas. I feel that I possess the needed experience and knowledge for this position. On Tuesday, February 19th, please vote Ross Weems for SA Treasurer.
