Country music fans will face disappointment next month due to a country star’s sudden cancellation of his Starkville shows.
Texas superstar Robert Earl Keen made the decision to postpone his September concert scheduled at Remington’s Hunt Club due to personal reasons, Remmington’s owner Bill Norris said. Despite his cancellation of the scheduled concert dates Sept. 1-7, Keen promised to reschedule, Norris said.
“We’re very sorry for any inconveniences this may cause fans,” Norris said. “I went on his tour bus last time he was here and all he talked about was how much he loved Starkville.”
Keen could not be reached for comment. However, Norris said he has kept in contact with his agent and feels confident that concert dates will be rescheduled as planned.
Kate Schintziuf, a representative of Baker Northrop Media Group, said the group will handle Keen’s tour starting Sept. 16. She said she had no knowledge of when Keen might be coming to Starkville.
Keen has found a place in the hearts of country music fans in Starkville and gained praise from the USA Today and the New York Times. Many feel he has proven himself as an uprising star and has a bright future in the world of country music.
“He had a great concert last time he was here in Starkville. He really packed the place out and brought down the house,” Norris said.
Because of recent successful concerts like REK, Norris feels Starkville has gained a lot of recognition for concert potential in the last couple of years. He says that bigger bands are starting to see Starkville as a good place to stop on the way to Birmingham and Atlanta. He adds that despite the recent cancellation, the concert outlook appears good for Mississippi State students.
New concert dates for Keen will be available to the public as soon as they are known. If you have any questions or would like updates on Keen visit the Remington’s web page at www.hutorbehunted.com.
