Mississippi State University’s chapter Delta Delta Delta sorority continues its partnership with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital by increasing awareness on campus about continued support for St. Jude. MSU’s Tri Delta chapter set up a booth in the Colvard Union Feb. 4, 5 and 7 to offer the campus the opportunity to donate to the hospital and encourage the children of St. Jude by signing a banner stating “Mississippi State and the Ladies of Delta Delta Delta wish the children of St. Jude a Happy Valentine’s Day.”
Philanthropy chairman Lauren Hancock and other members went to the hospital in Memphis, Tenn., recently to present the valentine banner. This is the second year Tri Delta made a banner for St. Jude. Last year, they successfully raised $500 from generous faculty and student donations.
Vice President of Public Relations Kara Servov said, “Our chapter has been working with St. Jude since the chapter was formed in 1973. Tri Delta recently created a national partnership in 1999 for chapters locally to raise money for St. Jude.”
Tri Delta chose St. Jude as their philanthropy because “they’re absolutely wonderful to work with,” Servov said. “They’re willing to treat anyone, and they’re so welcoming to us.”
“We go to the hospital at least once a semester for hospital tours and to meet the patients,” Servov said.
The women are active throughout the year with projects involving the patients of St. Jude.
“During Rush, we make place mats for the patients on Philanthropy Day,” Servov said. “Once a month, we receive a picture of a patient and share statistics with the chapter. Patients come to Frats at Bat, which is April 19-20, as special guests, and one of the patients gets to throw the first pitch,” Servov said.
Servov explained how rewarding this service partnership is for her. “Every time you see the children’s faces there, you know you’re working for the right cause. It’s absolutely worth it.
