Mayoral elections:
Lynn Spruill, the 72-year-old Democratic incumbent, is running for her third consecutive term. She ran unopposed during the 2021 election cycle. In April, Spruill narrowly escaped a runoff during the Democratic primary race against her opponent Charles Yarbrough.
The challenger is Republican Roger Bassett, a 79-year-old native of Starkville.
Alderman elections:
Alderman elections remain largely uncontested this year, except for Ward 3, the ward slightly southwest of the Mississippi State University campus. Republican candidate James Kyle Skinner will run against Democratic candidate Laurel Lynn Rowse for the position.
