Career Week begins Tuesday with a kick-off session in The Union at 10 a.m. to provide students with detailed information on each of the events planned.
The annual event, sponsored by the MSU Career Center, gives students an opportunity to put their knowledge and professional skills to the test and to prepare themselves for the workforce by attending rsum writing, interviewing and networking workshops.
“Career Week gives students the basic tools they need for their job search,” said Lisa Buckner, assistant director of the Career Center.
Guest speaker Camille Scales Young will explain the importance of networking in the Union Small Auditorium at 4 p.m.
Dillard’s and the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality are two of the companies that will lead workshops, Buckner said.
The Career Center staff will have “Quick Rsum Critiques” on the second floor of The Union between the hours of 8:30 and noon Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
“Students will be able to come by with their rsums, and someone from the Career Center staff will review and critique them,” Buckner said.
This service is free of charge to students, she added.
Rsum writing and interviewing sessions will begin Thursday.
Buckner said the students who go to the Career Week activities will have several advantages because they can learn helpful job search techniques.
She also said that the informative sessions will give students a “jumpstart” on what lies ahead in the workforce.
Career Week also helps prepare students for Career Days, which will be held Sept. 21-22 at the Humphrey Coliseum.
“Students who decide to participate in Career Week will be more successful on Career Days, especially during the on-campus interviews,” she said.
To learn more about the upcoming events during Career Week, students may visit the Career Center’s Web site at www.career.msstate.edu or call 325-3334.
