After reading the note that Mr. Bill Atkinson wrote to the editor in the September 28 issue I felt, as a current student and lifelong Bulldog fan, that I needed to write a note as well.
Mr. Atkinson, I am proud to know that an alumnus, especially one of some distinction (Reflector editor 1965), is still involved and feels the need to express their voice and attitude towards this great university. I must say, though, that this kind of support, or lack there off, you offer is not what a true Bulldog should render. No, MSU is not the national power in football, like for example Alabama once was, and in my opinion will never be with attitudes like yours. MSU coaching staff and athletic department are trying to the best of their ability to bring this program back to respectability and I feel they should receive all the positive support that the students, faculty, and alumnus can offer, not the grumblings of someone who apparently is ashamed of the Maroon and White.
It takes a true fan to stick it out through the highs and lows, and sir I would not consider you a true fan. I know that if you read this you will be thinking that you don not care what some ” young, little spoiled punk thinks”, and you probably should not care. Just to set the record straight, I am a thirty-five year old father to a nine-year-old son and I am trying to work my way through school. I grew up Maroon and White; I will die Maroon and White. Win, lose or draw I will be there cheering for my Bulldogs.
To coach Croom and the players, keep up the hard work and do not ever give up. Unlike some people, this fan will never give up on you. After all this is still just a game, right?
