Wouldn’t it be great if you could sink a couple of free throws to secure tickets instead of greeting the sunrise or dark dampness to get into the men’s basketball games?
It’s not feasible to have a campus-wide shooting contest for the right to reserve basketball tickets, but a point-scoring system of a different kind should be considered by the athletic department.
While student attendance at men’s basketball games has seldom, if ever, been better, attendance at other sports is just plain weak–almost embarassing.
A tremendous Maroon-clad crowd roared at Auburn Saturday in celebration of the Dawgs’ victory. It is great that so many made the trip.
Unfortunately less than 1,000 people saw Tan White’s buzzer-beater on Sunday.
The remaining home games are sold out, with only student tickets remaining.
Those were gone by 9:15 a.m. Monday. Students arrived as early as 4:30 that morning. Some slept in cars.
Bandwagoners claimed some of the tickets, leaving the die-hards out in the cold.
The athletic department should devise a system to reward fans who attend less popular sports by swiping ID cards at the events and tallying priority points toward getting hot hoops tickets.
Don’t want to wake up at 4 a.m. anymore?
Attend a smaller sport and earn points to reserve high demand tickets.
This would boost support where it’s needed.
