The Alumni Association will help reunite classmates this weekend.
“The Alumni Association will be holding class reunions for the classes of 1954, 1949, 1944 and 1939 to celebrate its 50th, 55th, 60th and 65th anniversary respectively,” alumni programs assistant Karen Hudson said.
The Hunter Henry Center will host an open house to honor those classes on Friday. Participating alumni will be taken on a campus tour, which will be followed by a fellowship time at the home of President Charles Lee and his wife, Hudson said.
A dinner and dance with entertainment by The Messengers will be held Friday night at the Hunter Henry Center.
Saturday morning, the alumni will have the opportunity to have a special breakfast with several of the colleges on campus. The colleges of Arts and Sciences, Agriculture and Life Sciences, Business, Education and Engineering will be holding receptions to celebrate the graduates of those colleges. The school of chemical engineering will also be holding a reception. All receptions will be held between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m.
Gayle McClure, executive secretary of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, said, “There will be a small program to honor the donors and recipients of scholarships during the breakfasts.”
Chemical engineering administrative assistant Sherre Denson said, “This is our first year to hold an alumni reception. We’re hoping to get off to a good start by having around 75 to 100 attending.
The fun part is that the chemical engineering faculty will be cooking and serving the breakfast.”
The M-Club Alumni Association, which is made up of former athletes who lettered during their time at State, will be having its biannual spring meeting on Saturday morning in the Leo Seal M-Club Center.
“Coach (Sylvester) Croom will be speaking at the meeting,” said John Correro, Alumni Association executive director and M-Club secretary. “It’s customary for the head football coach to speak. This will be Coach Croom¡s first opportunity to address this group.”
Lee will speak at a closing luncheon Saturday. The luncheon will be at the Club Level of Davis Wade Stadium.
Other opportunities for the alumni will be the Horticulture Club spring plant sale, a volleyball and soccer alumni match, and special sale hours for the MAFES Sales Store.
“The plant sale will be at the greenhouses behind Dorman on Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on Saturday from 8 a.m to 3 p.m. The proceeds help fund service projects and trips for the Horticulture Club,” associate professor Richard Harkess.
The volleyball game will be at 4:30 p.m. in the Newell-Grissom building. The soccer game will start at 1 p.m. at the MSU Soccer Field.
“The MAFES Sales Store will be open again this year during Super Bulldog Weekend. This is only the second time we will have done this. We did really well last year, and are hoping to do the same,” said staff assistant Deborah Huffman.
The store will be open regular hours Friday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
“This weekend is an opportunity for the alumni to mainly enjoy being together and reminiscing,” Hudson said.
