Mississippi State University has narrowed down the search for the position of vice president for student affairs to five candidates, one being Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs Jimmy Abraham. The five candidates will be interviewed on campus during the next few weeks. Each candidate will make a public presentation on his or her vision and philosophy of student affairs during the campus visit.
Abraham will be interviewing Sept. 3-4. He received his bachelor’s degree from Mississippi State University in 1975, received his master’s in 1977 and a doctorate from University of Mississippi in 1985.
Melvin Terrell, Vice President for Student Affairs at Northeastern Illinois University is another candidate and will be interviewing Sept. 5-6.
Douglass Covey, Dean of Student Affairs at Idaho State University will be interviewing for the position Sept. 9-10.
Mary Lynn Williamson, Group Leader of Recruiting/Working Effectiveness for ACXIOM Corporation, will be interviewing Sept. 23-24.
A final candidate for the position is Richard Chapman. Chapman is vice president for student affairs at the University of Maine. He will interview Oct. 7-8.

The next vice president for student affairs will succeed Dr. Roy Ruby, who has decided to give up the post to serve full time as Dean of Education. Ruby will serve as vice president until a successor is named.
