Remington’s Hunt Club will soon bring back a little of the “old school” flavor when Vanilla Ice and the “greatest show on Earth” returns to Coyote Concert Hall this Thursday, Feb. 7. Vanilla’s return will be the follow up to last year’s performance when “The Ice” packed the Hunt Club with crazed college students, and owner Bill Norris expects a huge turnout this time around, as well.
“Last year, we had an awesome crowd to show up for the concert, and we expect the same Thursday, only bigger,” Norris said.
Thursday nights are always promising at Remington’s Hunt Club with the wide range of bands and entertainment, drink specials and familiar friendly faces.
Thursday will be no exception. Cover for the concert will be $12, and once inside, patrons will enjoy a great show and good drink specials.
Considering Vanilla’s last trip to Starkville, and the crowd that he attracts everywhere he goes, Norris suggests that arriving early would be wise.
“We open the doors at 6 p.m., and the show will begin around 10 p.m., but if you want to get close to the stage you should come early,” Norris said.
One positive aspect that should definitely help alleviate any danger of a sell out is the new addition of the Remington’s Camphouse, which now affords the Hunt Club customers 25,000 square feet of club space to do as they please. The new addition also makes the Hunt Club one of the biggest clubs in the state of Mississippi.
As for the students’ hype level pertaining to Vanilla’s return, there are different opinions.
Jon Knott, a graduate student and Venice, Fla. native, is overwhelmingly excited about Vanilla’s return.
“I grew up a huge Vanilla fan. I collected lots of Vanilla Ice memorabilia and would even try to dance like him. Every time ‘Ice Ice Baby’ comes on the radio, I can’t help but start to bob my head,” Knott said. “I wouldn’t miss this concert for anything!”
Others have a different take on the subject.
“Last year, he came with some kind of hard rock that just wasn’t his style. I would rather him stick to what he does best, which is the ‘old school’ stuff, and I hear that is what he’s doing now,” Amy Lampton, of Jackson, said.
Some students were unable to make it to last year’s performance, and this year will provide them with another chance to witness Vanilla Ice live and in concert.
“I was unable to attend Vanilla’s last performance, but I definitely want to see this one,” Jaime Eubanks, a marketing major from Louisville, said. “I heard he puts on a great show, and I think it’s just wonderful that he’s making a comeback.”
Vanilla Ice’s live performance begins at 10 p.m., and admission is on a first come, first serve basis. For more information, call Norris at 323-2892.
