Robert Earl Keen will perform live at Remington’s Hunt Club April 4. The popular singer/songwriter will be presenting songs from his latest album, Gravitational Forces. Gravitational Forces is Keen’s ninth record to be released over a long and successful career, but fans expecting more of the typical Robert Earl Keen style may be surprised to discover the new path that the artist has taken on his new album.
Sacks & Co. of New York recently contained an article on the artist and the new lyrical sound of the album.
“Keen has, within his body of work, commented on just about everything. Alcholism, selfishness, murder, and then, as Hunter S. Thompson would say, ‘things really get bad.’ On Gravitational Forces, things don’t get really bad,” the Sacks & Co. article states. “As a matter of fact, they generally start out bad and uncharacteristically get better.”
Despite the new sound on the Gravitational Forces album, Keen is not worried about disappointing his loyal following. Sacks & Co. writes, “Longstanding fans and those suffering from trying to survive in a lyricless universe may be the happiest they have been in a while.”
Corrin Chambliss, a marketing major and Louisville native, has long been a fan of Keen.
“I began listening to Keen as a freshman at State, and I’ve enjoyed his music ever since. I haven’t had a chance to hear his latest album, but I’m really looking forward to seeing him play live at the Hunt Club,” Chambliss said.
Mississippi State University student, Roy Goffer, has recently become a fan of Keen’s music.
“His music is a little different from what I usually listen to, but it has a great sound and I love his lyrics,” Goffer said.
