The $100 bill coupon book distributed by Campus Special has become a common item in every dorm, apartment and house around the Mississippi State University campus. Soon, the new, free Campus Special mobile application will be available on every student’s cell phone.
Campus Special is a company that started distributing coupon books to 40 campuses across the nation. The company has expanded and now distributes the books to 150 campuses nationwide. Over five million coupon books are sent out annually. Campus Special is considered the industry’s leader in college marketing.
The new mobile app was launched nationwide on Aug. 12 and combines the coupon book with a feature that was introduced last year. Now, students are able to order food from certain restaurants around Starkville straight from the app. The customer service team at Campus Special monitors each order to assure it will always be ready on time.
The app also allows students to access every coupon in the booklet directly on their phones. Each phone coupon has a code, which assures the coupons are only used once.
Stephanie Scott, Campus Special Online Sales manager, said the most popular feature of the app so far is the mapping tool, which allows students to see a list of the deals closest to their current location.
Students compiled the list of participating restaurants and stores, which assures any student can benefit from downloading the free app, Scott said. In fact, the app has been downloaded to at least one phone each minute since its release.
“The great thing about this product in particular is that it’s made for students by students,” she said.
Brittany Williams, senior marketing major who interned for Campus Special, said as students, the group that created the list understands how important it is to save money.
“We’re all about saving students’ money,” Williams said.
Shannon McElroy, senior marketing major who also interned for Campus Special, said she sees the new app benefiting students as well as business owners.
“After talking with some of the local business owners, I realized how many students actually use the deals to save money,” McElroy said. “Some business owners would show me shoe boxes full of coupons that they had gotten back over the past year.”
McElroy also said the app is practically a coupon book no student will leave behind.
“I know a lot of times students leave their coupon books in their cars, but they would never leave their phones behind,” McElroy said.
Typically, the Campus Special coupon books are given out after students have bought hundreds of dollars worth of textbooks. With the new app, students can download all the same coupons for free.
McElroy said it is so simple to download anyone can do it.
“It’s super easy to download,” McElroy said. “All you have to do is scan the QR code on the front of your coupon book.”
Savings at some of Starkville’s favorite places are just one scan away.
